Download and burn a Foresight Linux Image

The current release of Foresight Linux is 2.1.1.

To download the latest version of Foreisght Linux, visit the downloads page.  Foresight is available on 1 CD (Foresight Lite) which includes everything you need for a basic installation, but does not include all languages or applications, but they are available to be installed via the "Add / Remove Programs" application. Internet access is required to install additional software.

Foresight is also available on 1 DVD which includes all packages and supported languages.

Burning an image:

Using your favorite CD Burning application, choose "Burn Image" and burn the image to a blank DVD-R or CD-R.

Installation instructions

Once you have burned an image of Foresight Linux, put it in your CD or DVD drive, and reboot your computer.

Hit enter when given the option to install Foresight Linux in graphical mode.  The installer will walk you through formatting your hard drive and creating partitions, setting a root password, and timezone.  All packages will be automatically installed.  When finished installing packages, the installer will run post installation scripts, and this process can take up to 15 minutes.

At this point the CD will be ejected from the drive, and you will be prompted to reboot.  You will then be asked to create a user and password before logging in.

How much disk space does standart installation require?

Posted by Anonymous at Nov 11, 2007 14:03

Depends on the place u got !
as a minimal install, i wouls advice ;
/ (root) minimal 8 gb
swap 2 to 4 gb
/home the rest of your disk.

you can try with instaling a virtualmachine in your windows, so you dont mess with your harddrive at all. Look for virtualbox, vmware and others. In that way u can try as much distro's as u want and it takes only 1 file in your windows.

hello i am a first time user of linux os. I think i must be thick, I have a lot of trouble when it comes to partitioning the hard drive, I do not want to lose my windows os by haveing a single partition. I have the linux Format mag with free Foresite Linux 2 DVD. The mag has clear instrutions on choseing custom partion and how much memory to use for the root linux and swap file?,
this is where i go round in circles, the same warning comes up " you have chosen to much memory and this partition is not valid", my main partion of 39Gb does not change?. Trying to learn how this window works is driving me crazy. Please help

First of all, you'll need to resize your ntfs partition to let some free space to install another OS along. Don't forget to first perform a Disk defragmentation. Than toy can use any program to resize it(I would recommend boot your machine with a lice-cd and use cfdisk utility, or use the gui Gparted.
Than you are ready to install the OS with the new partitions on the free space.
If you are done with that already, just choose the sizes and mounting points of the partitions. Only 3 partitions should be enough:
/ for the OS(root)
/swap ( usually double of your RAM)But don't need to make 4Gb /swap if your RAM is 2Gb.1Gb should be enough
/home (if you want to), otherwise home will be inside "/ " partition.
I hope it helps you. If not, post your problem, and inform as much as you can, than more people can help you.
You can also look on internet for the many partition guides available
Good Luck!

hello,

im not a linux geek or so, but i got some experience with foresight 1.x & conary. now i wanted to install foresight 2.0.1 to my desktop pc. there is allready winVista system (i need it for my work). after installing foresight from the disk, the mbr was killed, an the foresight bootmanager couldn't boot vista. no problem, i fixed the mbr with the vista cd and tried integrating grub into the windows bootloader with a little programm called EasyBCD. But it did not work. So i tried installing Foresight again. But now i got some strange anaconda errors. Sometimes in the partition menu, sometimes later when the installtion is in progress. I tried installing in text mode but i got "exec of anaconda failed: Exec format error". I tried deleting all partiotions, i tried all options in choosing how to install. Could that be the opinion "Install Bootsector on the Linux Partition". I always used this option because I dont want foresight to kill my MBR again.

Someone out there knowing these error or how to fix it? Thank you!

Hi,

I downloaded the USB version of the new Mobile edition - but their are no instructions. When I unarchive I get an unknown .img format file which presumably is the equivalent of the DVD iso file.  What to do next (I'm on windows).

The alternative CD option is an iso file but labeled Disk1, where is the other one?
